Happy weekend everyone. If you are looking for a little light reading, Steven Snell of the popular Vandelay Design recently profiled me for a post on his new site Traffikd.
Top Ten Signs that You are Ready to Divorce Your Job
March 19th, 2008
Are you in a career or job that you simply hate?
Someone recently emailed me and asked, “How do you know when is the right time to leave your corporate position or your job?”
My first thought, is that leaving your job that you have been in for two, five, or ten years is a lot like a divorce in many ways. Not that I would have any idea what going through a divorce is like, but for many people, even if they can’t STAND their career it still defines who they are, much like a long-term relationship.
I think the thought of separation [from a job] and the act of following through with the split can be a lot more difficult than most people imagine. Additionally, some people cling to their job (or marriage) like a life raft and are tremendously afraid to let go. Really, it comes down to the following. You have a burning desire and goal to be doing something else and the only reason you’re not is because fear, or a sense of job security, is holding you back.

How to Travel the Globe for FREE Using FLICKR
March 15th, 2008
Have you been reading sites like AnyWired, Gadling, or Brave New Traveler and have decided that you would like to travel the globe?
Even though I love where I live, the travel bug in me lurks its ugly head on an almost daily basis. Whether I have recently spoken to someone and heard about their trip to a terrific destination, or read about someone else’s adventure online, I really like to travel.
However, for some reason this past week I have been feeling like I REALLY need a trip! Preferably, I would like to take an around the world journey where I can hit the many places that I would like to go.
Seeing as how a three to six month circle the globe expedition is not in the cards for me right now I thought this morning…. “Hey, FLICKR has lots of great photos from all over the world I bet I could take a virtual journey to some of the countries that I have been thinking about lately.”
Next thing you know, I pulled out my Portable World Pocket Atlas and began my trip. So, I present to you my free around the world, global expedition using FLICKR.
First things first, I would head off to Nicaragua for a quick little surf trip.

So I Ask - What the Hell Are You?
March 12th, 2008
Yesterday I met this person and their personality had a repulsive air that can best be described as a glaringly obvious faker. I wish I could say the person was abrasive but it was subtler.

According to Seth Godin Tim Ferriss is a LIAR
March 9th, 2008
That’s right, Godin is quite clear, Tim is a BIG FAT liar! I am rather happy to break this news, although, I am surprised that it has not been written about before now.
For those of you who don’t know, Tim has a best selling book entitled, “The Four Hour Work Week.” The title alone conjures up visions of pina coladas, bikini clad beaches, and unlimited amounts of low effort, high paying work. If you are currently employed and find yourself stuck in a cube, or facing the monotony of a dead end job filled with daily drudgery, what could be better than a four-hour work week?

Chasing Coconuts - How I Went From the Cube to the Caribbean
March 6th, 2008
I am guest posting at AnyWired today:
In one of my previous guest posts here at AnyWired I discussed how to remove yourself from the office and take your show on the road. Today, I thought that I would give you a little insight and look into how I went from the cube to the Caribbean.
My story about searching for personal freedom might be a little different than most as I now live in the Caribbean and I am currently trying to develop my web presence from here. But, whatever your web worker dreams are, this story should hopefully resonate with many AnyWired readers because I am truly “everyman.” I do not come from money and have done every possible job from working as a waiter, landscaper, and warehouse worker to presenting data and policy to high level government officials.
To be sure, my goal to live in the Caribbean is most likely quite analogous to *your* situation, whatever your objective might be – starting your own business, telecommuting a couple of days a week, or traveling the globe, and most likely my journey was not too much different from what many who read AnyWired hope to achieve.
The Beginning of the Journey
Strangely enough, my journey out of the corporate world actually began when I was about fifteen (I turn 40 this year) and I don’t think I even knew what a cubicle was. During my second year of high school I had the chance to go to Hawaii with a friend and his family. To this day I can still remember stepping off the United Airlines plane and having my feet touch the sand and soil of the tropics for the very first time. Certainly, my life would never be the same.
Lifestyle Design - Practice What You Preach
March 4th, 2008
This is just a quick follow-up to yesterday’s post on Lifestyle Design. Not only am I a proponent of trying to create a style of living that brings fulfillment, but I am also a practitioner. Below are some photos from a hike we did with some guests this morning at 10:00am down to Resaca Beach. It’s not always easy but some days life can be quite good!
A Lesson In Lifestyle Design – Are You Ready?

Design the life you want to live
Living on a Caribbean Island I run into visitors and tourists on a daily basis and almost without fail someone will always say to me - “You live here? I would love to live on an islands, travel the globe, or live in a different city but I just can’t because of my job.”

Within today’s workforce there is a major paradigm shift underway with respect to the concept of employment and individual career pursuits.
Unfortunately, many companies in the global marketplace no longer maintain any semblance of loyalty toward its employees. (The previous statement is not meant to be a criticism, nor earth shattering news, but it’s stated for the record.)
