Birthday

July 19th, 2007

Today is my birthday. I can’t remember exactly when but I happened to see an interview (can’t remember with who) where the person being interviewed said,” if you have not started your life’s work by the time you reach forty, you probably won’t.” I agreed with what the person was saying and had hoped to complete certain goals before turning 40:

Imagine if you will, that you have survived three months of Peace Corps brainwashing training in the beautiful Papua New Guinea Highland’s town known as Goroka. With training finished you and your unbridled enthusiasm head for the airport to get on a plane that looks like a tin can with an engine to make your way to your new village where you will spend the next two years.

It just dawned on me that Terrie and I started our foray into island living ten years ago, which really doesn’t seem like that much time when you consider we are heading to our fourth island very soon. I had intended to include some basic geographical information about all of the locations we have called home for the past ten years in one post, but because of the space that the photos take up this anecdote will be broken into three or four parts starting with Papua New Guinea, then American Samoa, the BVI, and finally Culebra.
