Hey Everyone - on Monday I put up a post asking, “What are your goals for the week?” The natural follow-up question at the end of the week is, how did you do?

The following people dropped by and posted some of their goals: Brian Monahan, Expert in the Roughkelly, kazari, Glen Allsopp, Diana, Jarkko Laine, Ulla Hennig, Becky, Kelly@SHE-POWER, Success Professor, Susan, Cath Lawson and Al at 7P.

Did you complete all of the tasks and goals you listed?

The real reason (as if you didn’t know already) I originally posted the question was because I was trying to hold myself accountable last week. I find that once you write a goal down and put it out there on the net as an objective, I feel a little extra incentive to get things done.

How did I do? I must say, I feel pretty good about what I managed to accomplish last week and I think I did everything on my original list:

  • Implement some of the constructive changes that were recommended for my upcoming launch - DONE
  • Investigate conference calling options on the internet. - DONE (as a side not, I would highly recommend freeconferencecall.com)
  • Successfully structure my organization’s board. Done
  • Write four blog posts to help promote my small business (on culebrablog). FAIL - I only did two, but we got a really good write-up in the Lonely Planet
  • Stick to my triathlon workout schedule. YES - with some changes thrown in due too rain. The following was my workout schedule:
  • Mon swim 30min; run – 4mi regular

    Tues bike 1 hour

Weds swim 30min; run – long (an hour)

Thursrain - NOTHING - this is the day my schedule got messed up due too rain!

Fri swim 30min; bike 1 hour; run – speed work

Now, how about you, did you get everything done that was on your list? Was this exercise beneficial for you?

    1. Brian Monahan, Expert in the Rough Says:

      Mark,

I am not sure how I ended up following you on Twitter but I am very happy I did. You have a very “Human” style to your approach to blogging.

      So time to be honest.

I have worked out 4 times this week but have not written a formalized workout plan. I did notice increased energy for working out this week and I think your post helped me stay motivated.

I have a messier basement which I dugg everything out and separated for plastic bins or donation. I need the wife to finalize (who is pregnant so I can’t be to pushy with her) the donations, re-store or garbage piles.

Oh, did I mention the wife is pregnant. We need a birthing plan finalized. We picked out our daycare provider yesterday but no plan yet. Tommorow is the day.

Mark, absolutely enjoy the blog (the human behind it) even before the shout out.

      Brian

    2. Ulla Hennig Says:

      Mark,
my week has been very heavy at work, so I mostly failed with completing my task:
      1. Write 3 blog posts (well, one I am working on, and I am also writing a guest post, but they are not finished yet) = mostly failed
      2. Going to my Yoga course on Wednesday = done
      3. decluttering = failed.

      Mark:

I think I missed your previous post about the setting the goal for next week.

I think I should review my weekly goals on my blog too.

Personally, I exclude all the life style related tasks from my goals. For example, I ask myself to reserve 2 to 4 hours a day to do exercise and to relax. 4 hours for meals and taking shower. I assume I will have 6 hours sleep. So I have 10 hours left to actually work on my projects.

I know I will waste some time in that 10 hours for something unexpected. So I have to figure out ways to speed up the task to get my task done in 10 hours.

I do a lot of thinking before setting my next goal. I try to think if my goal is close to the reality. Is the goal helping me for the long term? I learned that from the 4HWW book. I evaluate what I done everyday and see if I have wasted time in that day.

Setting goal is a good thing. It is good, only if it a right goal.

    4. Glen Allsopp Says:

Posted my blog stats - DONE
Go to the gym twice - Only done once :(
Get all work tasts done - DONE

Thanks for reminding me to come back and update :)

    5. Al at 7P Says:

I have to admit that I wasn’t able to follow through with my plans. Unexpected events threw off my schedule. Now I know to plan for unexpected things.

    6. Diana Says:

      Hallo,
      here’s how I did:

      work:
      - keep my to-do-list and desk organized
-> OK: wrote down my tasks either in Outlook or on my paper list; left a well-organized desk on thursday night
      - get the new website online
-> almost: there were some more changes and now it’s scheduled for monday afternoon
      - write / review the concepts for 3 events
      -> DONE

      other:
      - get up before 8 a.m. (even if it’s just 7.59…)
      -> ehm, well, ehm… Ok, I failed here. :)
      - keep up my good work-out-habits (either ride my bike to work or go for a run)
-> DONE (the only day “off” was wednesday, that’s ok, I allow myself to skip one day but never two in a row)
      - review and post an already existing blog text (tonight)
      -> DONE
      - finally write an e-mail that I should have written weeks ago… (tonight)
      -> failed
      - make an appointment with a friend (today or tomorrow) to go and buy a used guitar for me (on Friday or Saturday)
-> changed: my dad wants to give me his guitar, so I don’t have to buy one - sweet, is it?
      - find a guitar-teacher (Wednesday)
-> changed: a friend of mine whom I told about my plan also wants to take some lessons and is going to find out about a music school close to his house
      - cancel my web-hosting-service and switch to a new one (Friday)
-> not done yet; my colleague advised me to take my actual providers blog-hosting plan - I have to collect some more information first

Additionally I accomplished some tasks I didn’t write down because I thought they weren’t my first priority (e.g. be very brave at the dentist; tidy & clean my room & start de-cluttering). Turned out they were… ;)

Now I wish everyone a successful week to come!
Take care and all the best from Berlin (Germany),
      Diana

    7. Kelly Says:

      Hey Mark

Thanks again for starting this! Although i didn’t finish all my goals, it certainly made me more driven and aware of what I needed to do, and helped me manage my time a bit instead of leaving things to the last minute.

      1) bring in brekky to work and save cash - managed that one every day! (and even got in a few lunches as well!) - and had noticeably more cash in the wallet at the end of the week.

      2) Unpack boxes - not all of them are done, but I’d say 80% is complete now. We are on the home straight now and should finish it over the next week.

      3) Ride to work twice. I didn’t do this at all! Combination of late work meetings, functions straight from the office etc - (and also not knowing where my cycling gear is!!). This was a pretty slack effort, but will pick it up when I get back from holidays.

Thanks again for starting this up, and congrats to you on the goals you met! Have a great week

      Kelly

    8. Mark Says:

Hi Everyone - this is awesome!! It’s really cool to hear about how everyone did? Is this something we should keep up??

I *truly* apologize for not answering everyone individually.

Currently I am in frantic work mode!! Along with a couple of other bloggers I am LAUNCHING my largest online project to date on TUESDAY!! This project has the potential to impact a lot of lives so we want to make sure everything is done right…please check back for the announcement.

    9. Terence Chang Says:

      Mark:

It’s exciting to see your new project moving forward. I have been waiting for this. :-)

Let me know if you need anything to get your site out there. :-) You know what I mean!

    10. Jarkko Laine Says:

      Let’s see:
      - get some more sleep [DONE]
      - get started with 2-3 interviews for my “insanely interesting September” [Sent out 3 interview requests… No answers yet]
      - finish the first of my creativity experiments [DONE, but didn’t report on it]
      - finish one blog post for nxe [Not done]
      - run 3 times [Not done]

So, not a big success for me :) But that’s life. More goals this week.

      Looking forward to your launch!

    11. Kelly@SHE-POWER Says:

No, I didn’t do that well. I did get a post out and I did some plotting work for my 3rd draft, but mostly I struggled all week with migraines. Luckily I was well enough to go away to Melbourne for my weekend away, but I slept while travelling and didn’t write. I needed the rest more.

      Kelly :)

    12. Cath Lawson Says:

Hi Mark - I didn’t do great. I did began to tackle them but I still haven’t completed them
