Definitely! Some time ago I read a discussion about saying hello on Twitter. Some people said - I exaggerate a bit - that’s information overflow and should be omitted. I say hello, because I am human.
You know… This is a hard one because it means opening yourself to the world. As long as you are not really human, you may feel that others can’t hurt you.
But at the same time, the only way to get something meaningful out of twitter, plurk, blog comments, email, facebook, all of it, is by opening up and being real. Being human, just like you put it.
So, yes, I agree :)
But this makes me ask a follow-up question: what triggered you to write this sentence?
Hi Jarkko - thanks for the follow-up question! It was just something that I was thinking about while running yesterday and I thought that I would throw it out there. The net has so many “social media” experts now (many of whom I know of and respect) but really I think it boils down to being yourself (human?). However, if I could re-post I would title it - The Minimalist Guide to Social Media Success…but, too late now.
WOW! This is the shortest blog post that took me the longest time to read. :-)
I started asking myself few questions.
What am I doing with social network?
What have I learned from social network?
Can I still become a life style entrepreneur without social network?
Have social network slow down my progress?
What can I offer to the people on social network?
I realized that there are different types of social network. It’s offline social network. It’s a network that people discuss their life face to face. It’s all about real people and real life.
I realized that many successful people don’t social online. They talk in person. They show off their human side of their life. It’s not always about business.
I try to put myself into the situation that I am surrounded by billionaires. I guess that I will be speechless. I try to imagine what they will be talking? Can I join their conversation?
There are too many social networks out there. I just think that we need to pick the one we really want to be in.

So simple and so true, this is one of the reasons I’ve spent so much time interacting in the niche, leaving blog comments etc.

Hmmm. I think some of us will need more details. Especially us robots. ;)
