January 21st, 2008 — interview series
Editor’s note: It is truly an honor to publish this interview with Scott Rigsby who is an AMAZING human being by any standards.
When Scott was 18 years old the pickup truck he was riding in was suddenly hit by a passing 3-ton attached trailer truck, which subsequently dragged him 300 feet. His back suffered third degree burns, his right leg was severed off and his left leg hung barely intact. His life was seemingly over.
Over a decade of countless doctor visits and hospitals, 26 surgeries, additional amputation, depression, fear, and uncertainty, Rigsby had become a professional patient. An inevitable battle with prescription drug addiction followed, as did the loss of many relationships and trust. At one point, things got so desperate that Rigsby sold what little furniture he had just to pay rent. There was no steady income and no dreams for a stable or successful future.
In 2005 he decided to change his life and became determined to “Do the Unthinkable.”

What is a successful life? How can we judge or measure such an innately personal concept?
We all define success differently. Some people love being a stockbroker, attending power lunches, and working one hundred hours per week.
Conversely, some might want a more quiet, less hectic existence, a large family, or perhaps, to be their own boss? Maybe, you would like to travel the globe, write about your experience, and earn a living via freelancing…
However you define success, if fear is holding you back from pursuing your dreams let’s see if we can take some steps toward overcoming it together.

January 16th, 2008 — interview series
Editor’s note: Today I am posting an interview that I just did yesterday with Daniel Scocco, of Daily Blog Tips. Recently, Daniel had a guest post published over at Zen Habits, “One Simple Principle to Live By: Purity,” which drew a tremendous amount of feedback from Leo’s readers.
Daniel’s interview today is outside of my regular “Ten Questions With” posting schedule but since I just had the chance to talk with him, and in light of the Zen Habit’s post, I thought now would be a good time to post his thoughts.

January 14th, 2008 — interview series
Editor’s note: Today is Tuesday so that must mean another installment of the “Ten Questions With” interview series. If you missed the first five installments in this series you might also find my interviews with Leo Babauta, Cameron Low, Skellie, Yaro Starak, and Darren Rowse of interest.
Today my guest is the extremely talented and creative website designer Michael Martin, from Pro Blog Design.
Even though I am design challenged I have been reading Michael’s blog for quite some time and he is rather unique because his blog is his portfolio. Additionally, Michael is one of the few designers listed in Smashing Magazine blogroll. So if you think that 2008 is your year to get a hand crafted custom blog, then you should get in contact with him.

Can you imagine if you did not have the freedom to write what you wanted? What would you do?
I have friends from all over the world who write online. Some of these people even live in places where you can be arrested for speaking out against the government or dominant religion.

Unfortunately, I believe that it is only a matter of time before we see a real headline like the one above. Even more thought provoking, it might be a citizen of the particular country who has the sentence imposed upon him. Or, maybe it will be a traveler (tourist, backpacker, etc) who happens to have his or her laptop with them and posts what they believe to be a benign remark about the local culture. Not realizing that their blog post would lead to dire consequences.
When I had the idea for this post I figured I would Google “blogger sentenced to death penalty” just to see what came up and fortunately (at least according to Google) no one has been given the death penalty yet. While I was at it I thought, for good measure I should also Google “blogger arrested” and disturbingly enough it seems as though quite a few bloggers have been incarcerated. These were the top three results:
So, I ask you -
- How do you feel about blogging freedom?
- Do you think we will see the day when a blogger is put to death for what he or she has written?

I was perusing the net the other day and I happened to read a post over at ProBlogger stating that my friend Skellie has just launched a new website called AnyWired.com.
After I finished reading the post I thought that I would just send off a quick congratulatory email and wish Skellie the best of luck in her new venture.
About a couple of hours later I got a nice reply from Skellie and since I was in the middle of drafting a new post I thought…what better “settling into your new site” gift could I possibly give than to offer her a guest post for the site, which would hopefully lessen the frantic excitement (and lack of time) that usually surrounds a new site launch.
Well, as it turns out the post that I sent just went up today and I have the honor of being Skellie’s first guest poster. This is pretty cool because according to Naomi Dunford, “Skellie is going to be taking over the free world.”
If you are looking for Ten Tips To Help You Remove Yourself From The Office then go on over and support AnyWired - a new site that is going to blow up HUGE!
Additionally, if you are interested, I have a new post that just went up at NorthxEast titled – 52 Post Ideas To Keep You Inspired Throughout The Year.
Hope you are having a nice weekend!

Editors note: Today’s “Humanitarian Friday” post on literacy and the Room to Read program were inspired by a recommendation from the Blog Mastermind, Yaro Starak.
