5 Must Ask Questions On Your Quest For Personal Freedom
December 6th, 2007
Would you like to successfully Quit Your Job, Travel The World, Pursue Your Dreams, and truly do your life’s work?
Some of the most popular posts on the internet today seem to be about taking control of your life and removing yourself from the corporate setting to travel the world, become your own boss, and fulfill your dreams.
Really, it is all simply a euphemism for creating and living the life that you want rather than accepting the status quo of the commuter and workaday grind.

Because the ‘personal freedom’ topic is so broad and entails many aspects which are required to achieve success (unless you are rich) I am going to break this up into a series that will run every Thursday.
Today, I have a short post to kick everything off and I would just like to offer up five questions or thoughts for you to ponder and ask yourself to determine if you are indeed ready to “chase your dreams.”
1 Are you caught in a rut? Whether at work or personally?
2 Are you prepared to be an active participant in your quest personal freedom?
3 What would you ideally like to be doing with your life?
4 Do you have personal or familial obligations that you need to sort out?
5 Would you like to make a change?
Whether you are interested in moving overseas, changing jobs, or starting your own business. All of these goals require one thing, a positive mindset and a plan with room for flexibility. With that you can achieve anything.
Please join me on Thursday of next week for the first post in this series when we will look at “How to Remove Yourself from a Negative Situation.”
Now, I ask you, are there other questions that you ask yourself when thinking about pursuing an aspiration, or change? Let me know in the comments.
Editor’s note: in case you have recently noticed the new tagline above -
Living Overseas | Blogging | Inspiration and Motivation | Entrepreneurship
MyTropicalEscape has taken a slight turn to include more niche topics. For those of you that are interested in my new editorial calendar, every Monday I will have a post on blogging or marketing, on Tuesday’s there is the flagship “Ten Questions With” interview series, Thursday will focus on the new series about personal freedom, and Friday will be a day to give back where I will discuss social or humanitarian issues.

nice post, thanks… I think there are always so many different obligations that pull us one way or another and effect the amount of freedom we tend to use as we go through the day. Scott

@chipseo - YES…those obligations.
They never seem to stop, do they? I wanted to go for a surf this morning but there was painting to be done, paver stones to make, and finishing off some other landscaping details. However, I must say that because I have no ‘official’ boss anymore I still feel quite FREE :)

There’s always something that needs to be completed before we take the plunge and escape the rat race. I think planning should take up a definite amount of time and after that, no matter what, you leave… At least that’s what I plan to do ;)
Will be looking forward for your blogging tips Mark!

Mark:
Those are good questions. I have been working from home for one and half years as my own boss. I have a lot of personal freedom, but it’s harder to keep the pace too protect those freedom.
Time management and budget planning become a limitation of my freedom. I gain a lot of freedom to do whatever I want, but I lost the freedom to free my mind after 8 to 5 day job.
Just like the image says. Freedom is not free. You gain freedom somewhere, and lost freedom somewhere. The point is to be happy with it.
I know I am!
Great theme! Makes me thinking to change my theme too!

@Terence - ahhh freedom, as stated above in another comment, we all still have obligations no matter how free we think we are :)
With regard to the new look, I am still checking out other themes but I think this will be the ONE. The only problem is I will have to go through and reformat all of the pictures, unless someone knows if this can be done via a script?

Such a great post, stirring up the freedom juices. I so love what you and Terrie have done, its exciting when you see people actually putting their dreams into reality. I’ve been escaping the cubicle nation all my life and with a few sojourns out of it, I’m still there and in my eyes obviously through choice as the frying pan has obviously seemed a more sure bet but I know in my heart of hearts that the life you and many others are leading are where we are all headed, the world is changing at a wonderfully rapid rate to the world of our dreams (imo). Who signed up to be squeezed into a world where we ’survive’ to live, no way jose! I’m all for finding a piece of freer paradise than the one I have, using an entrepreneurial spirit and making money work for itself. We live in such amazing times and its beautiful knowing there are other spirits soaring far and wide to LIVE life not just survive it! Loads of best wishes to all!
