Cool Bed

July 11th, 2007

No, really. It has been so oppressively hot in the British Virgin Islands lately that you seem to sweat if you are eating breakfast in the morning, when you are trying to sleep, or even while just standing and doing nothing at all.

While perusing the internet last night I came across an interesting item that could help combat the heat. It seems a Japanese company, Kuchofuku, has come up with an air conditioned bed and clothing line. As the press release states, “The makeshift bed, which only weighs 5.3-pounds, utilizes dual fans to pull air in and circulate it through the cushion beneath you. Of course, it’d be a modern tragedy to have to rise and leave such a pleasant scenario, but you can solve that dilemma as well care of the air conditioned shirt.” You ask, “how much does it cost?” The bed will set you back $399 and the clothing items are marked at $159 each.

A/C Bed

I have been looking out for ways to get, and stay, cold while sleeping and this could be the answer. However, I would really like find a consumer report’s article on this bed to find out how much electricity it uses and to discern if it is more cost effective than regular A/C. Additionally, I would like to read the safety information to see if the bed could catch fire like the old electric blankets, which in the UK cause 5000 fires a year and have even been known to burn down a sorority house in Corvalis, Oregon.

Heck maybe I’ll even wrap it around me while I eat breakfast.
