Top Business Travel Destinations
July 7th, 2007
Two quick updates for Saturday - While thinking about my upcoming (riveting) post for this Monday on cubicles I began wondering what the top destinations for self-important business conference types might be? A quick search online didn’t return as many “surveys” as I thought it would have (are you listening business travel writers??). However, one site, Business Travel had a short article from August 2006 entitled, “Readers Top Conference Cities” and the number one response was “someplace tropical” with 43.48% of the vote. Strangely enough, the second choice was “someplace hip” such as, San Francisco, Portland, or Seattle with 39.13%. “Someplace hip,” are you kidding me? I really think some groovy travel editor just makes this crap up and then publishes it as a reader survey.
The second item, and this is not made up for your reading pleasure, is for those of you who live in, or have visited the British Virgin Islands (BVI). Yesterday, I was SHOCKED to learn that the BVI is the number-two investor in new Chinese ventures. We only have ~ 25,000 people who live here so the money that comes in through offshore finance must go straight back out overseas once it has been hidden laundered “incorporated into a trust.” It also surprises me that a seemingly important factoid like this was not covered by any of the local press.
